in the historic centre of Hallstatt - beneath Janu's sports shop. Yhe remains date back to different periods throughout history: from Prehistotic Times to most recent history.
This "chance discovery" came about as a result of an emergency excavation ordered by the Federal Monuments Office between 1990 and 1994. As a result, experts were able to document the historic development from modern day right back to prehistoric times, here in the centre of Hallstatt.
Discoveries:
* 3 forges with a hammer mill and tools
* The outer walls of a Habsburg building dating back to the Middle Ages
* Roman remains
* Prehistoric remains
* Numerous metallic items
* Ceramics ( date back to Stone Age, prehistoric, Roman, Middle Ages and modern times)

Visits freely available during shop opening hours!
Daily throughout summer. Monday to Saturday in winter.
