Dressed in old costumes and with flat boards from an old barrel attached to their feet, rather like skis, "gladiators" race through obstacles down the steep slope to the finish line, much to the delight of their audience!

Throughout this race of a very special kind, contestants have the opportunity to slide, skid, stumble and "ski" on their flat boards ....... there are certain to be many spectacular crashes and stunts along the way! There will be hundreds of spectators to clap and cheer the contestants along their way.

So what are "Faßldaufeln" exactly? They are the curved wooden "planks" which when joined together, give barrels their shape. The "skiier" only has a leather strap to hold on to.
