The origins of "Nordic Walking",are, the name implies, in the Scandinavian countries. This was used as a form of fitness training by biathletes and cross country skiers in the summer months. Since then, nordic walking has spread like an epidemic across the whole of Europe. It has become an increasingly popular form of exercise for sports novices or those who have decided to take up regular exercise again. It is suitable for those who are out of condition or top sportsmen and women, either young or old, male or female. Everyone has their own reason for springing into action! Nordic walking is an efficient form of exercise and fitness training using poles made from a combination of carbon and glass fibres which are looped around the hands in a particular way.

- is 40 to 50% more effective than walking without sticks.
- it is quick and easy to learn the techniques.
