The boat rides on the Hallstatt Lake have been available 1862, and the ferry service from Hallstatt to the railway station since 1881 – and this is the only boat connection in Austria maintained during the winter months.
Giant Ice Cave – one of the biggest ice caves in the world - extensive Mammut Cave and Koppenbrüller Cave – still traversed by underground streams – are particularly spectacular.
