Echern Theme Trail

The start of this theme trail is by the "Babylon by the car park". This is a gentle stroll throught the Echerntal Valley, and lasts about 1.5 hours.

Character: The amazing "Glacier Garden" natural monument is located in Hallstatt's Echerntal Valley. From the deepest part of the glacier garden a path continues to the "Franz-Josef-Reitweg" (riding trail) and onwards to the "artists' trail" in the base of the valley.

Admire your unspoilt natural surroundings, look out for rushing mountain streams and waterfalls along the way. You will also be able to marvel at the natural beauty of the "Gletscheröfen" - natural pools created by glaciers. You can also discover how people first came to the Echerntal Valley. Emperors and kings, hikers and mountain climbers, Romantic artists, poets. literary figures, cave explorers, hunters and gamekeepers all made this a favourite spot.

Austria's best known Romantics and artists all set up their easels in the Echerntal Valley. In the 1900s, this valley was known as "The Place for Romantics"
