Gosau on the Dachstein

Großer Donnerkogel Mountain Climb

Conquer approximately 1100 metres of climbing and rugged mountain crags up to 400 m in height. This mountain climb is divided into three sections of varying degrees of difficulty.

Donnerkogel Klettersteig in Gosau / Gosaukamm

The climb brings you to the summit of one of the loveliest peaks of the jagged Gosaukamm mountain range. At 2055 metres, the Grosse Donnerkogel is also one of the highest.

Level of difficulty:
A / B to C
Requirements:
Some experience of alpine climbing experience needed. You must be fit enough to climb for at least 2.5 hours.
Route accessible:
June to mid October
Start:
Gosau cable car mountain terminus
Route begins:
By the Gablonzer mountain hut to the Törleck. Approx. 20 min.
Route Description:
The first section is an easy to moderate climb via the Toerleck. The ascent to the Kleiner Donnerkogel (1919 m) is of medium difficulty. The traverse to the Grosser Donnerkogel is more strenuous. It is also possible to climb the Donnermandl. This is described as difficult to very difficult. Ascent back to the start is possible after each completed section of the climb.

Ascent:
Follow the marked trail back to the cable car (approx. 1 hour) Latest return to the valley is at 16.50
