Here is an overview of huts serving food and refreshments, mountain huts with overnight facilities and those suitable for camping and self-catering throughout the Dachstein Salzkammergut World Heritage Region.

Hütteneckalm

Goisern Mountain Hut – Kalmberg

The Goisern mountain Hut is in view of the "Kalmberg Indian", and is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the Dachstein Salzkammergut region.

Soleweg - Brine Trail

The historical “Soleweg” (brine trail) is widely known as one of Austria’s most beautiful trails.

Circular route through the Dachstein region

Completed over 8 days, this Grand Hiking Tour of the Dachstein region takes you through the many scenic landscapes this part of the world has to offer. The Dachstein, although it cannot technically call itself one of the "3000 metre peaks" (actual height 2995m), is the second highest peak in the northern chalky alps. It has become particularly famous since 1997 when UNESCO added the Dachstein region, along with Hallstatt and the Inner Salzkammergut to its list of World Heritage sites.

Traunreiter path

One of the most beautiful hiking paths in Bad Goisern, is close to the River Traun - the Traunreiterweg!

Around the Gosausee (lake)

Length: 4km
1-1.5 hrs duration.
Ideal for the all the family.
The route is straight-forward - continue along the edge of the lake.

Heilbronner cross tour

400 metres altitiude. Suggested route approximately 6km. Duration around 3 hours.
Start: Obertraun with the cable car up on the Krippenstein.
Endpoint: Cable car station Oberfeld.

Koppental Trail (study trail)

The 10km long trail leads from Obertraun to Bad Aussee through the romantic Koppen valley. Total walking time is around 3 hours. You will need sturdy walking shoes. There is an opportunity to stop off for refreshments in the Koppental valley.

Hoher Sarstein, 1.975m

9 hrs full day's hiking. Start Bad Goisern - car park Pötschen road (Path 690) or Pötschenhöhe (Path 691). Descent to Obertraun possible (Path 692).
Proper walking equipment advised.

Salzkammerweg

A hiking tour like no other. As you walk around the Hohen Sarstein, situated between the Aussee region and the Inner Salzkammergut, there are thousands of years of history to be experienced. The route is 45.5 km long and is sign-posted throughout. There are many points of interest along the way.

Around the Gosaukamm mountain ridge

Follow a classic ridge path as you complete your circular tour of the Gosaukamm mountain range.

Follow the "Book and Bible Smugglers' Trails" in Austria.

Goiserer Legendstrail - scary- and legendshikes

50 years after the building of the Goiserer Ewinger Wand trail the new Goiserer Legendstrail is opened.

East bank trail

The trail along the eastern side of the Hallstatt lake from Obersee to Obertraun is ideal for the whole family. It is often described as one of the loveliest walks in the Salzkammergut.

Löckernsee Lake/Gritstone Quarries

A circular walk-way has been constructed, without a single nail, around the Löckernmoos small mountain lake.

The tolerance trail -

An excellently-signposted path takes you to the "Schwarzenbachloch", one of the three caves where, earlier, secret services were held by the protestants. The starting point is the Panorama Nova car park in Bad Goisern.

Echern Theme Trail

The start of this theme trail is by the "Babylon by the car park". This is a gentle stroll throught the Echerntal Valley, and lasts about 1.5 hours.

Grosser Donnerkogl (Great Donnerkogl)

Climbers have long been fascinated by the Gosaukamm - a rugged massif which until about 200 million years ago was a coral reef. There are numerous climbing routes to its rugged summits.

Plassen

Starting point for this walk is the small, picturesque World Heritage town of Hallstatt with its wealth of history.

4km round trip.. From the mountain station Krippenstein.
