The Facts

The ascent from the valley is made easy by the largest cable-car in the Salzkammergut - the Dachstein cable-car with its three stages. The ascent reveals an imposing view of the peak on the north-east flank of the Dachstein. The ascent in the gondola is overwhelming.

Shortly after leaving the gondola at the summit we arrive at the Krippenstein mountain hut. There are several pathways to choose from, all of which are well-worn and completely safe. There are also numerous benches on which to take a rest. The summit can be easily reached in half an hour.

In about 20 minutes the "Pioneer Cross" can be reached. This is situated a little below the summit itself but a terrace has been erected there from which to enjoy the stunning views. For those hikers who have the time, an ascent can be made of the third section of the cable car track and the Gjaidalm station can be reached in 10 minutes. An alternative would be a 2 hour walk.
