The perfect family day out. Enjoy a relaxing trip by land train up to the Plankensteinalm, Ebenalm, Iglmoosalm or Neualm high mountain pastures.
There are many hiking trails which begin on these mountain plateaux. Alternatively, you can sit and relax and enjoy home-made food specialities (including chesse and butter made on the farm). There is always plenty of musical entertainment, and the locals can tell you lots of stories and anecdotes which will keep you amused for hours.
Full day visit to the Plankenstein Alm.
Excursion via Lake Gosau through an area of unspoilt countryside and mountain pasture to the Plankensteinalm at 1600 m. Relax and enjoy refreshments at the mountain hut whilst benefitting from the peace and quiet. Choose whether to go off and explore your surroundings by yourself, or take part in the escorted hike to the "Wildereransitz" (takes about 20 minutes). From here there are magnificent views towards Hallstatt, of Lake Hallstatt and the surrounding mountains.
Depart: 9:30 a.m.
Return: between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Half-day tour with escorted hike through an area of high mountain moorland - "Lockernmoos"
Departures every Tuesday from Tourist Information in Gosau. Journey through beautiful scenery to approx. 1400 metres above sea level. Escorted hiking tour available from here to the gritstone quarry huts. Pass by the Löckernmoos - a romantic wilderness. This high mountain area of moorland with a small lake is of interest to visitors of all ages. Take a walk around the area either under your own steam or with a mountain guide. Either way you are sure to enjoy impressive views of the surrounding alpine world. The starting point for this easy walk is the grindstone quarry huts. Discover for yourself the unique flora and fauna of the area. Follow the marked trail through the trees, pass the little Löckernsee mountain lake, and soon you will see, right in front of you, the impressive Gosaukamm mountain range. All along the way there are information boards with interesting details on many aspects of local wildlife and vegetation.
Half-day visit to the Iglmoosalm
Kathi, proprietor of the mountain hut, eagerly awaits your arrival at the Iglmoosalm where she will have prepared all sorts of home-made treats. You have 3 hours now to explore the numerous hiking trails.
Half day visit visit to the Ebenalm
Pass the Lower Gosau Lake and continue up to the Ebenalm.This cosy, rustic mountain hut is the base for your 3 hour visit, and there are plenty of delicious refreshments available. There are lots of fantastic opportunities to go hiking, and afterwards we will make our return to the valley.
