This really is a very special hiking tour, and it has an extra special charm in early summer when the alpine roses are in bloom and the mountain sides are covered in a carpet of deep pink. Lush, green mountain meadows form a perfect contrast to the sheer, rugged peaks of the Gosaukamm.

To save a little time and effort, you can take the cable car (Gosaukammbahn) up to the Zwieselalm. From here, follow path number 601A to the upper Törlecksattel. If you wish to "take in" a summit here, follow path number 628 up to the Donnerkogel. Otherwise, follow route 611 around the base of the Donnerkogel. This brings you to the Stuhlalm mountain pasture and the Theodor Körner mountain hut where you can enjoy a rest and some well-earned refreshments. We then pass through lush, green mountain pasture land, wide, rugged mountain slopes and outcrops of sheer rock. There is a short section where ropes are required as you make your way through the wind gap and onwards to the Hofpürgl mountain hut.

For those who wish to complete the route over 2 days, it is possible to sleep in this hut. Otherwise, take the opportunity to take a rest, at least, as this will be your last opportunity to visit a mountain hut before your return to Gosau. From the Hofpürgl hut, follow path number 612 into the majestic basin-shaped, rocky valley beneath the Bischofsmütze. From here you climb up to the Steigl Pass - the highest point in our tour. This is a steep ascent, secured in places by metal ropes.

Stick to path 612 which cuts through woodland and mountain corries as you begin your descent to the lower Gosau lake. Along the way you will pass a former huntsman's hut which dates back to 1885. The Gosausee inn is now your final port of call where you can sit back and reflect upon this lovely hiking tour.
