Around 300 years ago a devout brotherhood brought gifts of food and drink, on the fourth Sunday of Lent, to the poor people of the town.

To celebrate the love and fraternity which was conveyed in carrying out these good deeds, “Liebstattsonntag”, a day of giving and sharing with others, is celebrated each year. In the Salzkammergut, Lebkuchen hearts (a type of soft gingerbread, decorated on the outside), are given to the old, the sick and the lonely, as symbols of affection, love and friendship!

We are delighted that these traditions of loving and giving are being continued in modern austere times.

The “Goldhauben” and “Kopftuchfrauen” (local community groups), along with Bad Goisern’s local history society warmly invite you to their “Liebstattlsonntag” celebrations on 18th March at 15.00 in the parish hall in Bad Goisern.
