Dachstein Salzkammergut
Many people have already experienced this sense of wonder: The Inner Salzkammergut is renowned for being one of the most magnificent landscapes in Austria, and is accessible by car, train or bus. The Dachstein is 2995 metres high, and is always visible in the distance.
Jagged mountain peaks perfectly frame broad valley floors with many interesting geological features. Bad Goisern is well known for its high mountain pastures, and Obertraun for its spectacular rock faces. Other interesting features in the area include fjord-like Lake Hallstatt and the Gosau Lake whose shores remain unspoilt. There are many traditional mountain huts and large expanses of mountain pasture land in and around Gosau, as well as expanses of woodland which stretch as far as the eye can see.
Hallstatt and its neighbouring communities are considered to be one of the most interesting World Heritage Regions in history. The concept of the Hallstatt Era has turned this part of the world into a national monument.
